Travel :: Vienna, Austria

Vienna, Austria's Imperial City, was the third stop on my solo trip through Europe.  The architecture was stunning and the history was fascinating.  I loved spending a day at the Hofburg and a day at the Schönbrunn Palace, learning about the lives and legacies of the Hapsburgs.  The coffee houses were unlike any I had seen before, my absolute favorite being the ridiculously beautiful Demel {Starbucks will never be the same}.  I dined at by far the best vegetarian restaurant I have ever visited...Tian.  The food was out of this world delicious and the ambiance was just as outstanding.  If you are ever in Vienna and are looking for something other than the traditional Wiener Schnitzel I could not recommend it enough.  Oh, and I have to mention that I saw some of the most unbelievable sunsets in Vienna.  I don't know if it was just coincidence but every night the vanilla skies were more unbelievable than the last!

  4. I've been reading your posts about your travels in Europe for the last few weeks and they've been making me reconsider this old idea I've had for a long time of living and travelling in Europe for six months to a year. Just last week we seriously thought we might go ahead and do it. Unfortunately the more we thought about it the more we realized this may not be the best time financially, especially since we trying to save up for a house and start a family. On the other hand (finances aside) this could be the our last chance to go on an adventure before we have any big responsibilities. So here's a dilemma- to go or not to go? I was wondering if you have any recommendations for someone travelling through Europe on a budget. It's difficult to know in advance how much something like this may cost and I think that's what's scaring us, not knowing if we can actuality afford it, or immediately assuming that we won't.

  5. Some of my best friends from grad school at St. Andrews were Austrian! I was supposed to go visit them over winter holiday, but instead went to India (to visit grandparents, which isn't a bad time to spend the holidays ha). But I hear it's the most beautiful city and these photos are just stunning! I'm thinking of paying them a visit soon actually! x

    have you ever thought of making a travel book? your photos have the best perspective. they capture the 'bigger picture' - all the architecture and amazing sites/buildings/food, but at this view of actually what it might feel like to be there. That fifth photo is my favorite. xo
