"The Intern" Set Design

Ryan and I don't see a lot of movies in the theater, so whenever we travel abroad I use the flight as an opportunity to catch up on my new releases. While watching The Martian, I started getting distracted by the movie the passenger in front of me was watching, and though I tried to stay focused on my screen I just couldn't seem to look away. I finally realized why I was so captivated - the movie had one of the more gorgeous set designs that I had ever seen! When I got home I looked the movie up and quickly realized why I loved it so much. Of course, it was because "The Intern" was directed by none other than Nancy Meyers {the woman can do no wrong!}

Interiors :: A Dream Farmhouse Tour

Oh. my. gosh.  I need to prepare you for this one.  This Oklahoma farmhouse is overflowing with warmth, charm, pops of color, and rustic elegance.  I love the gorgeous views, the sprawling porches, the whitewashed walls, the outdoor spaces, and the stunning kitchen.  But my favorite part of the house?  The two adorable reading nooks!  For more photos read the full article on Style Me Pretty Living.

Interiors :: A Traditional Chic Home Tour

Get ready to feast your eyes on this beautiful home designed by Irene of designstiles.  The traditional home is filled with elegant textiles, perfectly patinaed vintage rugs and mirrors, and a healthy dose of feminine glamour - all tied together with a lovely neutral palette {plus a few splashes of color of course} that makes the home feel elegant while being immensely relaxed and livable.  I especially love the wallpapered powder room, custom designed vanity, and the too cute for words nursery.  Read more about the home and design process here and see even more photos here.

Exteriors :: Al Fresco Living

I don't know about you, but this week seemed especially long for me.  I blame it on the ungodly amount of rain we received.  Thankfully, the sun is shining and the forecast predicts yet another beautiful weekend.  And what better place to enjoy nature's glory than your own backyard?  These gorgeous images have me aching to dine al fresco {preferably under a billowing yellow tent...is that too much to ask?}  But until we have a yard like these I will just have to make do with a picnic blanket and our favorite park :) Have a wonderful weekend!

Interiors :: A Historic Mississippi Home Renovation

I first saw this house on Brandyn's blog a few months back and have been day-dreaming about it ever since.  This historic 1825 Mississippi home had been neglected for so many years that it was nearly crumbling to the ground.  It took three years and a major gut renovation, but high school sweethearts Tere and Mac Thomas restored the house to absolutely pristine condition.  To me, there isn't much more romantic than taking a decrepit old house and bringing life back into it...just think of Hollywood classics like "The Notebook," "It's a Wonderful Life," and "Big Fish."  A girl can dream!

Interiors :: A Victorian Home

Well hello there!  We made it back from Florida yesterday and I am trying to get back in the swing of things...aren't those first few days after vacation always the hardest?  Meanwhile, I have been absolutely swooning over the gorgeous 1868 Victorian home of Annie Brahler.  Located in Jacksonville, Illinois, Annie's home is overflowing with gilt mirrors, antique furniture, stunning chandeliers, and beautiful architecture.  However, the neutral palette makes sure that the home feels lived-in and never stuffy.  Oh, and did I mention the closet?!

Interiors :: Parisian Apartments

This morning I showed you a beautiful chateau in the Loire Valley, and since I couldn't pick which amazing Parisian apartment I wanted to feature this afternoon, I figured, why not just include both?  I recently stumbled across the fantastical home of French designer Patrice Gruffaz and absolutely fell in love.  Doesn't it seem like it is right out of a fairy tale?  The mushroom table and stools are out of this world cool and I love his unusual choice of color palette and textiles.  It is quirky, witty, and personally I love it!

The second apartment, home to Danish designer Klavs Rosenfalck, was unoccupied from 1963 until he his purchase in 2008.  The abandonment didn't help it's condition, but it did preserve the original architecture from the horrible design that was the 1970's and 1980's.  I love the contrast Klavs created with the highly modern furniture placed against the ornately guided molding {I mean seriously, some of those walls could easily be mistaken for Versailles}.  And how beautiful is that Venetian Glass Chandelier?  Seriously impressive.

So what do you think?  Do you prefer the first whimsical apartment or the second traditional-meets-modern home?  Personally, I can't resist amazing architecture so I love the second, but the decor of the first is more up my alley.  My dream apartment would combine elements of the two to create an unexpected but enchanting home fit for the wanna-be-Parisian I am.

Interiors :: A French Chateau

I know this week is all about Paris, but this morning we are going to venture out into the French countryside to visit an insanely gorgeous restored chateau in the Loire Valley.  Giuseppe Laviani and his wife Giacomina purchased the 17th-century 'La Socelière' chateau for $500,000 and invested another $500,000 to restore it to its former glory {while taking great pains to "give dignity back to the house without overdoing it."}  Laviani decorated the home in a mix of high-low French and Italian antiques, adding to it's casual elegance.  The property, nicknamed 'The Barefoot Chateau,' is so relaxed that all four generations of the Laviani family go shoeless when they visit in the summer.  Such a dream!

PS - Stay tuned this afternoon for another tour of a stunning Parisian apartment.
