While flipping through this past issue of Travel & Leisure, I stumbled upon a photo of New York City's newly renovated historic Marlton Hotel. The hotel, first built in 1900, was masterminded by Sean MacPherson, co-owner of New York's Bowery Hotel. MacPherson was influenced by F. Scott Fitzgerald's postwar Paris, designing the hotel with Rosemary's "small hotel" from "Tender is the Night" in mind.
I love how the modern light fixtures, surrealist art, and sculptural furniture provide a dynamic contrast against the herringbone wood floors, luxurious textiles, and classic bones of the historic Greenwich Village hotel. And that penthouse terrace? Sign me up!
