The Big Move

Well, today is the day!  Last Saturday we signed the lease on our place and had 6 days to pack up our entire apartment and get it ready for the move.  Today we are getting up at dawn and driving two hours to Cincinnati to rent a U-Haul and unpack all of my furniture, books, dishes, etc. from a storage unit.  Then we will be driving the truck back to Indianapolis and unloading the contents into our new house.  And if that wasn't enough, we will have to drive the truck back to our current apartment, pack everything up, and move all of that into the new place as well.  I am getting tired just thinking about it!  Here's hoping for Wonder Woman energy to get me through the day!

Missing Paris

I know I have had multiple posts dedicated to my love of Paris {just a few are here, here, here, here, and here} but for some reason yesterday as I was looking through a blogger friends photos of the City of Light I was just overcome by how much I miss it.  I have been to Paris twice {once for a week, once for two and a half weeks} and for some reason the city just clicked with me.  And I know I'm not the only one, as my literary love Ernest Hemingway had a similar view on Paris..."If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it says with you, for Paris is a moveable feast."

Everything about the city is beautiful, filled with culture, delicious food, amazing art, and stunning architecture.  Each street you walk down seems to be more lovely than the last.  And if you wander a little bit off the beaten path you may stumble upon some of the most interesting and gorgeous little wonders such as a secret garden, tiny market, or a shop that sells only antique keys {how cool is that?}  There is such a refined sensibility throughout the city, and I can honestly say I have never felt as inspired creatively as when I was in Paris.  I feel a bit cheesy saying it, because I mean who isn't in love with Paris?  So cliche, right?  Oh well, I will just have to be content with looking through my old photos, watching "Midnight in Paris," and eating cheese {with wine of course}...until next time!

Clawfoot Tubs

Happy Monday Dears!  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.  My last few days have consisted of looking at house after house and apartment after apartment.  Apparently the rental market in Indianapolis is SUPER competitive, and it's typical for a place to be signed over in less than 24 hours.  But I am excited to say that after a lot of searching we have found our home for the next year, and I couldn't be more excited!

It is actually a duplex which initially neither of us wanted, but we quickly realized that the majority of rental homes in our area were duplexes, and the houses that were available were just not at all what we were looking for.  The duplex is walking distance to quite a few of our favorite restaurants, bars, shops, and Fresh Market.  It was built in the early 1900's and has all hardwoods {recently stained a gorgeous dark mahogany}, TONS of windows, cool original light fixtures, lots of storage space {unusual in an old home}, a nice little yard with a community garden, and an adorable front porch {I will be buying a porch swing ASAP}.  But, honestly the deciding factor for me was the antique clawfoot bathtub in our bathroom.  It is white with gold feet and thankfully already has the shower installed as well.  Is that unreasonable that a bathtub was the deciding factor in our new house?  Maybe a little, but I can't help it -- I love them!

We move in on Friday, and I have to say I'm not exactly sure what the best way to handle the shower curtain situation is.  We have a window behind the bathtub so ideally I would like the curtain to open on both sides to let in more natural light when we are not using it, which makes me think we should simply get two shower curtains and two liners.  However, my concern is that even if we pull the curtains tightly together when showering the bathroom will get flooded with light sneaking through the crack.  What do you think?  Do any of you guys have a clawfoot tub?  What kind of shower curtain(s) do you recommend?

Dreaming About Weddings

Lately we have been talking a lot about weddings.  As I mentioned earlier, I am going to nine this year, so needless to say weddings are on my mind quite frequently.  I wrote about wedding gift ideas and my go-to wedding ensemble, but today I am simply going fantasize a bit about my dream wedding.

While I am most certainly not in any rush to get to the alter {honestly, after doing long-distance with Ryan for 5 years, I am just content being able to finally live together} it is still fun to daydream about the perfect wedding.  I picture my wedding to be a mix of rustic, vintage, elegance with lots of quirky, girly details.  I feel most myself when I am outside, connected with nature, so quite simply the only place I picture myself getting married is in the great outdoors.  I will admit this is a bit risky, as the Midwest is known for unpredictable weather, so I would definitely have to choose a location that has an indoor option -- preferably either a whitewashed barn or space to set-up a century tent.

Food is very important to Ryan and I, so guests will dine on family-style farm-to-table cuisine.  I know an open-bar is the norm these days, but I imagine us having a few fine wines, craft beers, and two or three signature cocktails {lavender lemonade anyone?}  Instead of one large wedding cake I will have a dessert table filled with small cakes, pies, and other sweet treats.  After dessert we will dance the night away under the glow of tiny white lights as far as the eye can see.

Sigh, that sounds about perfect to me!

Fearrington Village

I recently spent a week with my BFF and her family in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Since Brooke is a teacher her mom took it upon herself to be my tour-guide during the day, taking me to all of her favorite places in the surrounding area.  One day we decided to take a day trip to Fearrington Village, and I have to tell you that I absolutely fell in love and am dying to go back {*hint hint Ryan*}.  This gorgeous farm features a five-star inn {a member of Relais & Chateaux}, a gourmet farm-to-table restaurant, luxury spa, amazing shops, and a beautiful barn which also serves as an absolutely dreamy wedding venue.  From the famed beltie cows to the gorgeous gardens, Fearrington truly is the perfect weekend getaway.
