Travel :: Russia

Happy Monday friends!  I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  I finally found time to read {"The Fault in Our Stars" and "The Interestings"}, went to the Indianapolis Winter Beer Fest, and may or may not have watched the Puppy Bowl instead of the Superbowl...don't judge :)

Perhaps it's because the Sochi Winter Olympics start this week, but today I have been daydreaming of a snow-covered trip to Russia.  I'd love to see Red Square, the beautiful Catherine's Palace, St. Basil's Cathedral, the ballet at Mikhailovsky Theater, wander through snow covered forests, and visit a tea house {or two}.  Don't these images make you feel like you could just close your eyes and step back in Tolstoy's 19th century Russia?  So beautiful...

  1. Hahaha, I do not blame you for watching the Puppy Bowl versus the Super Bowl! Cuteness versus men running all over the place, the winner seems obvious :) These pictures are so enchanting! Saint Basil's Cathedral seems absolutely amazing. I always enjoy admiring it in photos and movies. Have a beautiful day, Molly!

  4. i may or may not have watched a little bit of the puppy bowl myself ;) and oh my goodness, that image of the ice with the snow on top, it almost looks unreal. how beautiful. russia would be an amazing place to visit. i feel like everything i have read though that takes place in russia is terrible (gulag archipelago and the like) that i have always been hesitant in my daydreaming. but then i see photos like this and i think, oh i must go someday!!

  9. Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog. This post is lovely. Russia really does have this mystical magical quality to it. I would love to visit it as well (politics aside). Did you enjoy both books? I have sort of wanted to read "The fault in our stars" but I am not really sure if it is my type of book. The other I have never heard of but I will look into!

  10. thank you rae, totally agree with you on the politics. i fantasize about russia from the perspective of a tolstoy reader...but definitely not from the perspective of a human rights activist.

    i actually loved "the fault in our stars," even though it isn't my usual read. something about it just got under my skin and really left a big impact. it is about teenagers, but to me the writing and themes of the book were mature enough {death, the meaning of life, etc.} that it didn't feel too "Y.A." for me. and i'm actually still in the process of reading "the interestings," but so far so good :)

  13. i totally agree with you. i fantasize about russia from the perspective of a tolstoy reader but definitely not from the perspective of a human rights activist. i also feel like because it isn't as much of a tourist destination as many other countries in europe {i know at least as of last year if americans wanted to visit they had to be sponsored by a russian national} it seems just that much more mythical and dreamy to me.
