Fashion :: Inspired by Anna Karenina

All this daydreaming about Russia inspired me to re-watch "Anna Karenina," and while I have to admit I was a bit disappointed by the film {to me the highly choreographed scenes, while creative, took away from the overall feel of the movie}, I absolutely fell in love with the unbelievably stunning costumes.  Inspired by the deep jewel tones, elegant furs {faux for me please}, and rich textiles I have pulled together a few pieces to help channel your inner Russian aristocrat.  Enjoy!

Side note: Have you ever wondered why in every American movie that is set in Europe the characters ALWAYS have a British accent {exp: Les Misérables}.  Come on people, this is Russia not the UK!

  1. I love how dramatic her outfits are. Yeah I totally agree with you about the movie- but its kinda funny when a movie is stunning to look at but not the greatest story line. hehe i always thought the same thing about the britsh accents.

  3. i never read the book (i know, i know) before watching the movie.. or after.. so to me the movie seemed quite good but i heard from many that the book (as usual) was way better and they missed out on many emotional parts

  6. The movie was good although a bit hard to follow at times. I thought Keira Knightly played the character perfectly though and of course the clothes were stunning.

  7. glad to know i'm not the only one who notices that, it seriously drives me crazy! i can't decide if it's because a british accent is much easier for actors to emulate {or in the case of anna karenina, i know many of the leads were from the UK} than accents like french or russian...or if it's because hollywood thinks a more exotic accent will be too hard for our unsophisticated american ears :)

  13. I agree it was a bit overdone at points but I did still really love it. I will watch anything that is a period piece and/or stars kiera knightly. I was really inspired by the fashion as well... I like your take on the styles inspired by Russia.

p.s. I literally laughed out loud at your comment about all European movies having british accents. It's so true and frustrating, especially movies about ancient Rome/Greece. Completely incorrect. Oh well.
