Art :: Chasing the Light

Inspired by Monday's post about the Arctic winter wonderland of Lapland, I wanted to share with you artist Zaria Forman's beautiful paintings from her historically contextual art expedition {inspired by American painter William Bradford's 1869 expedition up the Northwest Coast of Greenland}, entitled Chasing the Light.  

The story behind the art is so bittersweet, reading it brought tears to my eyes -- "Zaria's mother, Rena Bass Forman, had conceived the idea for the voyage, but sadly did not live to see it through. During the months of her illness her dedication to the expedition never wavered and Zaria promised to carry out her final journey to honor her. In Greenland, she scattered her ashes amongst crackling ice diamonds, on the towering peak of one of earth’s oldest stones and under the green glow of northern lights. Rena is now a part of the landscape she loved so much." - Ice to Iceland  

I not only love these pieces because of the stunning imagery, moody colors and shadows, and otherworldly feel, but most importantly because they remind me that life is short and we must never take anything we have for granted.
